Couples & Family Therapy

Couples & Family Therapy supports partners and families in understanding relational patterns, strengthening emotional connection, and navigating change across different stages of life.

I work with couples and families experiencing:

  • Communication difficulties and recurring conflict
  • Emotional distance or disconnection
  • Intergenerational and cultural dynamics
  • Changing roles, boundaries, and expectations
  • Parenting children and youth with support needs
  • Caregiving responsibilities and ageing parents
  • The impact of illness, stress, or major life transitions on relationships

Difficulties in couples and families are rarely caused by one person alone. More often, they develop over time, as each person responds to stress, tries to protect themselves, and attempts to stay connected. These patterns may have made sense at one time, but over time they can create distance, tension, or repeated conflict.

In couples and family therapy, we look beyond blame to understand how each person contributes to the dynamic, and how each person has influence within the relationship.

The focus is not on changing someone else, but on increasing awareness, shared responsibility, and more honest ways of responding.

The goal is to support relationships that feel more respectful, connected, and supportive in everyday life.

My Approach to Couples and Family Therapy

My work with couples and families is grounded in a relational and integrative approach, recognizing that challenges rarely exist in isolation. Relationship distress often reflects patterns shaped by attachment, family history, culture, life transitions, and the ways stress and trauma are held within individuals and the family system.

My work is grounded in attachment-based and emotion-focused therapy, supporting emotional safety and secure connection in couples and families. I integrate Gottman Method principles to strengthen communication and manage conflict, along with Terry Real’s Relational–Life Therapy to address patterns of accountability, power, and mutual respect—especially when relationships feel stuck or imbalanced.

My approach is also trauma-informed and narrative-informed, attending to how past experiences, identity, and cultural context shape present dynamics. I work with curiosity and care to understand the stories people carry about themselves and one another, and how these stories influence patterns of relating.

Therapy is holistic and body-aware, with attention to the nervous system and how emotional and relational stress may show up physically. Rather than focusing on blame or symptom management alone, we work to understand patterns, clarify needs and boundaries, and develop more supportive ways of relating in everyday life.

All work is collaborative and tailored to the couple’s or family’s unique circumstances, values, and stage of life. The goal is to support greater clarity and meaningful connection within relationships, while respecting each person’s experience.
